The latest injury news from Detroit Lions training camp includes updates on Sam LaPorta and Terrion Arnold.
Prior to Monday’s joint practice with the New York Giants , Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell offered a couple of quick injury updates.
To start, Campbell noted that tight end Sam LaPorta was going to sit out practice with an undisclosed injury, and defensive back Brian Branch would be limited to individual drills and seven-on-seven work. However, Campbell made sure to point out that both players’ injuries are not considered serious.
“They’ll be fine long-term, don’t sweat,” Campbell noted.
Branch has been mostly limited this training camp as he continues to work his way back from an offseason clean-up surgery that had him in a boot and scooter in the spring.
More notable, however, is what happened during practice. Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold left practice early. The Lions clarified later that the cornerback is being evaluated for a concussion.
It’s unclear if the injury is related to this, but NFC East reporter Ralph Vacchiano caught video of Arnold absorbing a big block from Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas just minutes before Arnold reportedly left the field.
You’ll want the sound up for this.

Additionally, the Lions announced that starting right guard Kevin Zeitler is dealing with a shoulder injury. Detroit is already shorthanded at the guard position with Netane Muti on injured reserve and Christian Mahogany still on the non-football illness list—veteran guard Kayode Awosika returned to practice today against the Giants after missing some time. Detroit did recently sign two guards to help out with depth: Ike Boettger and Jake Burton.
Lions coach Dan Campbell is expected to speak before the second joint practice with the Giants on Tuesday. Let’s hope he has positive injury updates.
