After nearly two season with the Detroit Lions, Donovan Peoples-Jones is getting a new opportunity with the New Orleans Saints.
While the Detroit Lions kick off rookie minicamp this weekend, one former Lions receiver is trying out for another team.
Donovan Peoples-Jones will participate in New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp as one of 16 tryout players. The Saints receiver room currently consists of Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, Cedrick Wilson Jr., and Rashid Shaheed among others.
Peoples-Jones, a former Michigan Wolverine, spent two seasons with the Detroit Lions. Initially, the Lions acquired Peoples-Jones near the trade deadline of the 2023 season, sending a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the veteran wide receiver. Peoples-Jones would end up playing eight games for the Lions that year, although mostly as a subpackage and special teams player. He caught five passes for 58 yards in Detroit that season.
After re-signing with the team in 2024, Peoples-Jones failed to make the Lions’ initial 53-man roster. He spent the entirety of the season on Detroit’s practice squad.
Now, Peoples-Jones—who just recently celebrated two years of sobriety —will have another chance to make an impact at the NFL level. Peoples-Jones is still just 26 years old, despite this being his sixth season in the NFL.
