Chris Russo went off on Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell on Wednesday morning.
He didn’t like how aggressive Campbell got when his team was up by 14 in the third quarter. He thinks Campbell should’ve just taken the points and gone up by 17 instead of trying to go for it on fourth down.
“Take the points,” Russo said . “It’s 24-10 in the third quarter! He’s got a 4th-and-3 at the 28-yard line and this guy decides to go for it where a field goal gives you a three-score lead? I’m telling you right now, the Lion fan is sick! This is a franchise that’s never been to a Super Bowl. They had the Niners dead to rights and America wants to see the Lions! I don’t want to see San Francisco under any circumstance!”
Campbell’s been going for it on fourth down all year so it shouldn’t have been a surprise to see him go for it in that situation.
The funny thing is, is that the Lions had the right play dialed up but wide receiver Josh Reynolds dropped the pass. Had he caught it, nobody is having this discussion right now.
Instead, he dropped it and kickstarted the 49ers’ second-half comeback.
The 49ers won by three, 34-31, and will now play in Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 11.
