Lions CB Ennis Rakestraw made a promise to fourth grade teacher. After getting drafted, he followed through:
Detroit Lions second-round pick Ennis Rakestraw Jr. dreamed of the NFL at a young age. In fact, there’s written proof of it.
On Sunday night, Rakestraw shared a heartfelt letter to his fourth grade teacher, in which he promises “Mr. Gammon” that if he makes the NFL, he’ll make sure to acknowledge how much of an impact he made.
Here’s the adorable letter, transcribed (with all the cute fourth grade mistakes kept in)
Dear Mr. Gammon
You are the best teacher ever. You always had and have my back and you give me confidence. When my little brother had a sejere (seizure) you gave me food and snacks. I wish I didn’t want to leave you but I have to but I hope you come and see me at Daniel please. Come see me I hope to you miss me like I miss you and I hope your alive because if I make it to a proffosinal football player. I will talk about you Mr. gammon. Please give me your phone number before I go.
From: Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
ps Goodbye
It appears Mr. Gammon saved that letter, took a picture of it, and the two reunited after Rakestraw was drafted last week by the Detroit Lions. Here’s a picture of their reunion, with Rakestraw sporting his new Lions hat.
4th grade I made this commitment and if I make a promise. I’ll keep it no matter how difficult it is. #Lions #chaseyourdreams pic.twitter.com/V6yJ9QNIKZ

Much like Terrion Arnold’s story about the relationship between him and his high school janitor , this shows that Rakestraw is a humble young man who appreciates those who helped him along the way. In other words, he’ll fit right into the Detroit Lions culture.
