Dynamic Broncos Playmaker Puts Heated Rival on Notice With Bold Statement

June 12, 2025 by Heavy

J.K. Dobbins is the newest member of the Denver Broncos and is ready to work.

In his first media availability since the deal was made official, Dobbins said it “felt amazing” and was a “true blessing” to take the practice field with his new Broncos teammates. He said he is “happy” to be in Denver, predicting “great things” for the Broncos.

Dobbins, who also said he was “where I need to be,” reacted to the Los Angeles Chargers’ decision to tender him but not make an offer in free agency, and if it gave him a chip.

“I always have a chip on my shoulder. But, yeah, that was a little weird. But it’s business. It’s for my agent to handle. Good luck to them. I’m a Bronco now. They got to see me twice a year. So, that’s my thoughts on it. Going to have the chip on my shoulder, of course. But I’m here. I’m worried about winning,” Dobbins told reporters on June 11.

“I don’t want to just beat the Chargers. I want to go on, and I want to get a ring. Because I’ve been in the playoffs every year I’ve played. So, I’m tired of losing in them. So, that’s my goal is to bring a Super Bowl to the city and just be a blessing to the community as well.”

Dobbins was the No. 55 overall pick of the 2020 draft, spending the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens before playing for the Chargers in 2024.

“I felt like it was the best fit for me,” Dobbins said, praising the Broncos’ setup. “The defense is really good, like super good. Quarterback’s amazing. I like the RB room. O-line is amazing as well. So, it was a no-brainer. And Coach Sean Payton and all the other coaches on staff, too. So, I know I’ll get coached well here, and I also heard that it’s a good fan base. So, that’s why I’m here.”

J.K. Dobbins Looking to Mentor RJ Harvey

Payton called Dobbins a “good player” and said that the Broncos will see how the situation at running back plays out. The Broncos have a loaded room that includes Audric Estime , Blake Watson , Jaleel McLaughlin , and Tyler Badie .

Payton said everyone will have an opportunity to prove themselves.

Still, the expectation remains that Dobbins and rookie second-round pick RJ Harvey will split the lead duties.

The Broncos have revamped their running back room.

“I know this room is also young. So, I want to bring some leadership to them, help them grow as NFL players. Because it can be tough. Especially, got the young rookie, RJ. He’s going to be really good,” Dobbins said. “It’s my job to help him grow and pass the game along to him. And, hopefully, he has a great career.

“He’s going to be really good. I see a special player in him.”

Harvey said he was eager to learn from Dobbins, touting the veteran’s experience and the Broncos’ RB group in general.

“He’s been in the league for about, what, five, six years now. I’m excited to get to learn from him and all the other guys as well,” Harvey said, per 9News’ Mike Klis on June 10. “I feel like we’ve got a great room.”

The numerous familiar faces are helping to ease Dobbins’ transition to the Broncos, with one more day of organized team activities before they break until training camp later this summer.

“I can go all the way – Ben Powers , Coop [Jonathon Cooper ]. Me and Coop were at Ohio State together. Sam Ehlinger , he was like – before we left for college, high school, we were best friends. So, same with [Brandon] Jones ,” Dobbins said. “It’s like home here already.”

Jones offered his fond account of Dobbins.

“He’s a good back, especially when healthy,” Jones told reporters on June 10. “We kind of go back a little bit in high school and college. So, I’m very familiar with him as a person and his game on the field. But, yeah, he was a baller. He was one of the running backs that had the better rushing games against us last year. So, super excited for him to be here.”

It is a promising starting point for Dobbins and the Broncos, who will face the Chargers in Weeks 3 (in LA) and Week 18 (in Denver).
