Giving you live score updates, highlights, and drive-by-drive analysis for Lions vs. Cardinals.
The morning games weren’t particularly kind to the Detroit Lions . The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings both decisively, moving the Packers to 2-1 and the Vikings to 3-0.
With Detroit sitting at 1-1, they won’t be able to climb atop the NFC North by the end of Week 3, but they don’t want to fall two games behind. Between them and a 2-1 start to the season lies the similarly 1-1 Arizona Cardinals . The Cardinals boast one of the most hot and fun offenses in the league through two weeks, which should give Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn a handful.
But the talk this week in Detroit has been all about the offense. What has been a top-five offense in back-to-back seasons, has turned into a disappointing unit through two games. It’s far too early to panic, but the rust needs to be cleared sooner rather than later. As coach Dan Campbell has preached all offseason, this year is going to be tougher for Detroit to get where they were last year. That already appears to be true with the strength of the division. Detroit can’t let that be true do to their own failures.
So can the offense turn it around and the defense hold Kyler Murray in check? First quarter
The Cardinals won the toss and deferred, giving Detroit’s offense the first opportunity of the game. The Lions went heavy on offense to start the game, utilizing Dan Skipper as a sixth offensive lineman. It worked early, with 16 yards on the ground from David Montgomery on two rushes. Then Jared Goff found Sam LaPorta for 12 yards on a third-and-6 to keep the drive alive and move into Cardinals territory. Back-to-back throws to Brock Wright moved Detroit to the edge of the red zone. All it took was three more runs from Montgomery to get in the end zone and give Detroit an early 7-0 Lions lead.
