The Detroit Lions released veteran defensive back Tracy Walker on Tuesday.
Walker, who was a third round pick for the Lions in 2018, appeared in 79 games with 43 starts over six seasons with the franchise. He twice eclipsed the 100-tackle mark, logging 103 stops in 2019 and 108 in 2021.
Walker hinted at his release in a heartfelt Instagram post this afternoon.
Detroit I want to thank you for welcoming me in as rookie and accepting me as family.. I want to thank the Ford family for giving me the opportunity to be apart of something special over these last 6 years. I want to thank my fans and supporters for always having my back through it all. I want to thank the city for holding down for me. It was many ups and downs but that’s life and life is 10% what happens to you, 90% how you respond. With that being the future is bright and TTIME is coming harder than ever for Year7.!! GOD BLESS TTIME⏰ OUT
In 2023, Walker appeared in every regular season game for the first time since his rookie season. He finished with 59 total tackles, one sack and a forced fumble.
However, the Louisiana alum was a healthy scratch in all three playoff games, having been replaced by Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Walker was set to count $12.8 million against the Lions’ salary cap in 2024. By releasing him, Detroit will save roughly $5.5 million.
