We break down the biggest storylines to watch for 2025 Detroit Lions OTAs and the players we’re most interested in seeing.
On Friday, the Detroit Lions will open up their first of six OTA practices for this offseason. Detroit opted to cut their offseason program significantly this year , likely because they’ll be starting training camp early now that they’re in the preseason Hall of Fame Game. That means one fewer week of OTAs (two instead of three), and mandatory minicamp has been cancelled.
That leaves us with only a small preview into the Lions’ 2025 team this spring. We’ll have to be extra vigilant during the two of six practices that are open to the media.
On this week’s episode of the PODcast, we preview OTAs by discussion the biggest topics to watch. As always, attendance is one of the more notable developments. Where will the likes of Aidan Hutchinson, Mekhi Wingo, and Amon-Ra St. Brown(?) be in their participation levels of practice after dealing with injury this offseason? Will Alex Anzalone be a no-show and is there a threat of a holdout there?
Then we share the players we are most interested in following during the two weeks of practice. Will we see signs of Year 2 jumps from guys like Terrion Arnold and Giovanni Manu? Is Jameson Williams truly looking like he’s poised for another breakout season ? And what will Isaac TeSlaa look like in his first on-field action with NFL veterans?
Finally, we tackle the most interesting positions to watch, including the guard battle and how the defensive line will look.
Prior to the OTA talk, we discuss the NFL rule changes, including our thoughts on the tush push ban failing, the NFL playoff reseeding proposal getting pulled, and our excitement level for Olympic flag football.
This episode, we also welcome the Talking Grit podcast folks —Jason Harwood and Jacob Litton , who participated in the podcast after generous donations during our Movember charity drive .
