The Detroit Lions organization continues to show they’re on the rise with improving grades from 2025 NFLPA surveys.
The NFLPA released the results of their third ever report card for all 32 franchises . Back in 2023, the Players Association began this venture with the purpose of incentivizing teams to examine their weaknesses, improve their facilities, and challenge teams to continually work at providing better resources for their players. The report cards are based on survey of NFL players. This year’s results are based on 1,695 surveys.
When the surveys first dropped in 2023 (based on 2022 surveys), the Detroit Lions came in at 15th. In 2024, they jumped to 13th. This year, the Lions have jumped all the way to ninth in the NFL. Here are the individual grade the Lions got at each criteria:
- Overall: 9th
- Treatment of families: B (13th)
- Food/dining area: B- (19th)
- Nutrition/Dietician: B (23rd)
- Locker room: C+ (19th)
- Training room: B (9th)
- Training staff: B (14th)
- Weight room: B (22nd)
- Strength coach: A- (16th)
- Team travel: B+ (12th)
- Head coach: A+ (5th)
- Ownership: B+ (14st)
Notably, the Lions saw a jump in a few categories, including training room (13th to 9th), ownership (21st to 14th), and food/dining area (C to B-).
However, they did drop rankings when it comes to locker room (13th to 19th) and team travel (8th to 12th—although the grade went from B to B+).
For the second straight year, the Lions’ nutrition/dietician program was their lowest ranking on the survey. The main complaint appears to be individualized programs. Per the survey, only 70% of players reported that they had an individualized program, which ranked 28th out of 32 teams. That said, the team’s food/dining area has improved over the last few surveys: Via the survey:
The dining area has significantly improved year over year. Climbing from a D- in 2023 to a C in 2024 and this year a B-. The players still want more variety and options for food choices.
The locker room and weight rooms sizes were both below average according to the players, but both facilities have been recent targets from the team to upgrade. Last year, team president Rod Wood said they are doubling the size of their training room.
Of course, Dan Campbell is the star of the survey for the second straight year. Per the survey, 100% of Lions players believe Campbell is efficient with their time, making him just one of six coaches to receive unanimous support in that area.
Here’s an overall look at the grades from last year’s survey:
- Overall: 13th
- Treatment of families: B (8th)
- Food service/cafeteria: C (19th)
- Nutrition/Dietician: C+ (25th)
- Locker room: B- (13th)
- Training room: B (13th)
- Training staff: B (12th)
- Weight room: B+ (12th)
- Strength coach: A- (13th)
- Team travel: B (8th)
- Head coach: A+ (3rd)
