The Detroit Lions unveiled a HUGELY NECESSARY upgrade to their training camp experience.
When anyone asks for advice surrounding a trip to Detroit Lions training camp, I always have the same answers: wear a hat, get some sunscreen, and hydrate. The Michigan summer sun can be unforgiving, and the bleachers at Lions camp are often baking in the direct sunlight.
But it appears those days are now over. On Tuesday, the Lions announced a wide-spanning partnership with Meijer. Most notably, the Lions training facility has a name now: the Meijer Performance Center. You can read more about the Meijer partnership with the Lions’ official press release .
With the partnership comes a significant upgrade to the Lions’ facility and the fans’ training camp experience, as shared by Lions reporter Tim Twentyman.
Fans coming to #Lions training camp are in for a treat. From the covered bleacher seats to the two-story VIP tent the team’s done a great job getting the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park ready for the most anticipated camp in my 16 years covering the team pic.twitter.com/U7uIbsdhWy

The VIP fan tent got a double-decker upgrade, and the general seating on the sidelines now includes an awning to help block the relentless sun.
It’s a long overdue upgrade to the fan experience, and the latest investment by the Ford family to put fans first. And it’s just in time to meet the demands of a Lions fanbase who sold out training camp tickets in less than two days.
While the Lions continue to make upgrades to their facility, the question of whether they will consider a move to a larger plot of land continues to linger. However, team president Rod Wood told local reporters on Tuesday that that doesn’t appear to be in the team’s immediate plans.
Rod Wood said Lions don’t have plans to move from Allen Park any time soon. Says partnership with Meijer is long term, although he declined to share term specifics.
