After leading the Detroit Lions to their first division title and NFC Championship Game appearance in decades, head coach Dan Campbell is going to be a part of the organization for a very long time.
In a statement released on Thursday, Lions owner Sheila Hamp announced that Campbell along with general manager Brad Holmes have received four-year contract extensions. Hamp praised Campbell and Holmes for being “the driving force” behind the team’s recent success and believes that continuity will be key to the team’s continued ascension.
“We are thrilled to have Brad and Dan under contract for the next four seasons,” Hamp said. “They have been the driving force behind the rebuild of our football team and the success that we have enjoyed. The continuity they provide for our football program will continue to be the key to our future success on the field.”
Campbell had a rough first season with the team, going 3-13-1 in 2021. But tripled the team’s win total the following season and saw them finish 9-8.
Everything came together in 2023 though as the team went 12-5, winning their first NFC North title this century and winning two playoff games en route to reaching the NFC Championship Game, where they narrowly lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
Holmes has been a big part of the success Campbell has enjoyed as well. His trade for Jared Goff in 2021 along with a slew of savvy free agent signings and draft picks has set the Lions up for sustained success.
The Lions should be a tough team through the year 2027.
