The Detroit Lions do not appear to have any intentions of trading Jameson Williams.
For the past few weeks, speculation has spread about the Detroit Lions potentially trading wide receiver Jameson Williams. After Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft , Lions general manager Brad Holmes emphatically shut down that conversation
“No, that’s something that we have never entertained. I don’t know where that report came from, but that’s not a conversation that me and Dan (Campbell) have ever had,” Holmes said.
Speculation began when Holmes said at the owners meeting that they were not ready to commit to a long-term deal with Williams, noting that that’s a tough position to pay.
“In terms of extension, again, there’s a lot of extensions that are hopefully coming. But it’s just one that you just don’t know what’s going to happen from a financial standpoint. Because a wide receiver, it’s expensive. It’s very expensive. Look, these are good problems to have,” Holmes said.
But earlier in the press conference, he had this to say:
“Look, he was a tremendous player for us last year. He’s still scratching the surface. I do think he’s got more in him as well. So I just think it just makes sense for us to do what we can to keep him around,” Holmes said.
Still, rumors persisted when Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer noted that some teams believed he may be on the block.
“With a fifth-year option decision coming on Jameson Williams, and some in NFL circles believing he could be traded,” Breer wrote.
But it appears the Lions are not interested in having those conversations.
The Lions are expected to exercise Williams’ fifth-year option , which will keep him under contract for the next two season. He’s coming off a career year, hauling in 58 passes for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns.
