Detroit Lions add familiar LB; waived players go unclaimed

None of the players the Detroit Lions waived were claimed, but the team did add one new player themselves—and it’s a familiar face.

The NFL waiver claims from the 2024 roster cuts are in, and it’s a relatively uneventful moment for the Detroit Lions . Of all the roster cuts they made on Tuesday, none of them went claimed on waivers.

However, the Lions did make one waiver claim themselves: linebacker Trevor Nowaske.

You may remember Nowaske from his stint on the 2023 roster. While he didn’t make the team’s initial 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie, he was stashed on the Lions’ practice squad. The Lions would end up signing him to the 53-man roster in November, and he got action in two games (Weeks 12 and 15) to handle special teams duties. Unfortunately for Nowaske, when the Lions had to activate a couple injured players late in the season, he was waived and subsequently claimed by the Arizona Cardinals .

But after failing to make the Cardinals’ 53-man roster this season, Nowaske is back in Detroit. The Lions didn’t have to make a roster spot for Nowaske, as their initial roster was only 52 players. However, one has to wonder if the Lions really plan on keeping seven linebackers on the roster or if one of the other players on the depth chart (Ben Niemann) could be in danger of getting cut.

We’re tracking all of the waiver claims, free agent signings, and practice squad signings right here —which includes an updated look at the Lions 53-man roster.

But for now, welcome back Nowaske! Let’s get to work!
