The Detroit Lions 2018 fourth-round pick, Da’Shawn Hand , has been released off the Injured Reserve (IR) with an injury settlement. This comes days after an embarrassing Thanksgiving Day loss, by Detroit, to the struggling Chicago Bears . Baring health, Hand figures to be a solid depth signing for any team with playoff aspirations. Because of the lack of recent success in Detroit, he figures to not drive that high of a price either.

Valuable Depth Available for Playoff Hopefuls
Once Hand clears waivers, he will be free to sign with whichever team he sees fit. This release comes at the heels of an injury-plagued career in Detroit. Hand entered the regular season hurt as he initially suffered an injury during training camp. After missing the first seven weeks of the season, Hand returned for one game only to re-aggravate the same injury. Since entering the league back in 2018, he has yet to play a full season. Sadly, this is the case far too often with players that share his potential.
In 29 career games with Detroit, Hand registered 54 combined tackles, 39 solo tackles, and six tackles for loss. He also registered three sacks, two pass deflections, and two quarterback hits. Hand was just never able to gain any momentum due to his constant lack of availability. A sad ending in Detroit for a player that was once believed to have Pro Bowl potential.
With the rash of injuries across the league this season, Hand should not struggle to find work. You can never have too many bodies to rush the quarterback. When healthy, and that is unfortunately rare, he has the ability to cause disruption all over the line of scrimmage. Look for teams like the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams to check in on the health and availability of Hand.
