Browns Star Myles Garrett Sends Strong Message to Lions OC John Morton

September 27, 2025 by Heavy

The Cleveland Browns are coming off an impressive win against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. They will aim to carry that momentum into their Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions, who are arguably one of the best teams in the NFL, led by star quarterback Jared Goff and a strong ground game.

Consecutive wins over two heavyweights in the NFC North would put the league on notice that the Browns might be a force to be reckoned with during the 2025 NFL season. However, they’ll have a tall task ahead against the Lions’ two-headed monster coming out of the backfield, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

Lions OC Sends Warning to Myles Garrett and the Browns

The Lions might have a potent offense, which is coming off a big win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, with Montgomery and Gibbs combining for 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 34 carries, but this week they’ll be going up against six-time All-Pro Myles Garrett.

Lions offensive coordinator John Morton claims that the Browns haven’t faced a run game like theirs, which Garrett was asked about ahead of this Week 4 matchup.

“He’s entitled to his opinion,” Garrett said of Morton’s comments. “He hasn’t seen a defensive front like ours, and he’s entitled to say what he wants. We have the privilege to see who’s right, and I think it’ll be a battle of ideologies. I think our DC also has some things to say. We have to be the ones to put it into action, and so, we have to meet and see who’s right.”

It seems as though Morton may have touched a nerve with Garrett, potentially giving him that much more motivation coming into this game, where the Lions have everything to lose and the Browns have everything to gain.

Browns’ Defense Faces Tough Challenge Against Lions

GettyMyles Garrett #95 of the Cleveland Browns warms up prior to the game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

With the quarterback situation being the main topic of discussion when it comes to the Browns, with two rookies and a 40-year-old veteran leading the way this season, Cleveland has an opportunity to prove a lot of doubters wrong, with Garrett and the defense likely to be leaned on heavily for that to happen.

The win over Jordan Love and the Packers in Week 3 was a good sign that Garrett and company can help this team be relevant this season. They held Green Bay’s potent offense to only 10 points, resulting in a three-point win, which was the first victory of the season for the Browns.

It’ll be a classic matchup of a high-powered offense taking on a lockdown defense. Detroit is third in the league in total yards per game at 394.3 behind the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts , while the Browns are first in the NFL in yards allowed at 204.3 per contest.

Both teams will be put to the test, as the outcome of this game, in which the Lions are heavily favored at -10.5 as of Friday, may determine whether Detroit’s offense is genuinely among the league’s elite, and the same applies to the Browns’ defense.
