Even though the Detroit Lions are 2-1 and in the driver’s seat of the playoffs if they continue to win, they’re decreasing the role for cornerback Terrion Arnold. According to reports , the Lions are demoting Arnold to backup duties as he continues to struggle to contain the opposing offensive threats. With Arnold getting a lesser workload, this leaves room for veteran Amik Robertson to take a higher snap count at the outside cornerback position. It’s an interesting development as the defensive back was the starter against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional round a couple of months ago when the entire secondary collapsed.
He had a few flashes during the game, but there were too many injuries in the Lions’ defensive secondary for them to even have a chance to move on in the first round. With the signing of Avonte Maddox and DJ Reed, the Lions have plenty of depth to work with if they want to move on from Arnold. However, nobody should expect the Lions to give up on the former 2024 draft pick so easily unless they get a viable trade offer from another team. Originally selected as a first-round selection, it would take a ton of picks for Arnold, even though he’s struggling.
It’s something to monitor here, but he continues to be in a downward trend; the Lions might not have any other choice.

Possible Next Teams
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are open for business to improve the roster this season with the extra first-round picks they got after shipping Micah Parsons to Green Bay. While Jerry Jones said it has to be a special “player,” it must be Terrion Arnold to upgrade the secondary room. With DaRon Bland nursing an injury and Trevon Diggs not being able to clean up the biggest moments, they need a huge revamp. Despite trading for Kaiir Elam this past offseason, he has been a disappointment.
The Cowboys signed a few practice squad members, including Corey Balletine, but that won’t help. The Cowboys need a huge upgrade, and Arnold is right there to help Diggs, Bland and Elam. Jones doesn’t need to trade all first-rounders for him, but just one first-rounder could be enough for the 2024 draft pick.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers continue to have one of the best secondaries since last season despite losing Kristian Fulton in free agency. Between 2024 draft pick Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still, the Chargers have a solid long-term unit here. However, they’ve been able to add Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste for depth to continue to bolster the unit. Arnold joining the Chargers would be like lights out for the pass secondary, and they should trade for him while they have the cap space and in the best position ever at 3-0.
Kansas City Chiefs
However, the Kansas City Chiefs are in dire need of depth at the secondary unit. Trent McDuffie , Jaylen Watson and Chamarri Conner are still playing at their peak, but the depth is slim. After losing Deon Bush, Nazeeh Johnson and Eric Scott Jr., they could use Arnold in backup duties to help Conner in the nickelback position.
