Breaking: $9 Million Star On Trade Block, 5 Possible Fits

April 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

amik robertson trade

The Detroit Lions might be open to trade cornerback Amik Robertson during the NFL Draft this offseason. According to a source , they believe Robertson may become expendable since the Lions made a few moves to salvage their secondary unit, including signing Avonte Maddox. He wasn’t the only free-agent addition, as the Lions replaced Carlton Davis with DJ Reed, so it seems like they’re heading into a new regime. With that, it might seem sensible that the Lions could hear trade offers for Robertson and make him available to see if there are legitimate draft picks that may be worth considering.

Last season, the Lions took a hit in their secondary unit toward the end of the 2024 campaign, losing the majority of their starters due to injuries. It was why they couldn’t survive during the matchup against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional Round, as the offense was too powerful for the Lions to keep up. For Robertson, the job is already in danger, so it’s easy for him to find a team where he could be at least a serviceable backup in a new scenery. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Louisiana Tech product only played one season with the Lions, and his role could be redundant this upcoming 2025 season if the team prefers Maddox.

Robertson might not earn the biggest contract, but he can join these five teams to start fresh.

Potential Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

It’s time for the Baltimore Ravens to step up their act, as they are just one step closer to playing in the big game. Last season, the team couldn’t get past the Bills, even though the Ravens took a chance on trading for Tre’Davious White to salvage their cornerback unit. With that, as Marlon Humphrey is aging, the Ravens could use a replacement like Robertson to fill in the shoes after losing Brandon Stephens this offseason. He won’t provide much, but there’s nothing such as too many cornerbacks as 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins is still developing and free agent signee Chidobe Awuzie is past his prime.

New Orleans Saints

If anyone on this list of landing destinations needs a cornerback in the worst way, it’s the New Orleans Saints. The team found a way to sign Justin Reid to a solid contract, but they have yet to address the cornerback department. Kool-Aid McKinstry has a lot of upside, but he can’t do it alone as the team traded Marshon Lattimore to Washington and lost Paulson Adebo in free agency. Robertson won’t be Lattimore 2.0, but he’s a healthy scratch to keep the Saints competitive and better than what they have.

Kansas City Chiefs

For the Chiefs, the team could lose Jaylen Watson in a trade . The team might have gotten Kristian Fulton, but he has a strong history of injuries, so the Chiefs should monitor him carefully despite his resurgence. Robertson is more than capable of running this pass defense alongside Trent McDuffie .

Washington Commanders

The Commanders are testing the waters in their secondary department. After losing Benjamin St-Juste, the team could use another weapon to stabilize this group, especially for free-agent signee Jonathan Jones . Robertson won’t win over Lattimore, but he could easily be a solid rotational piece in this team that has a bright future.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Chargers could use another cornerback. Despite signing Donte Jackson , the team lost Kristian Fulton to their rival, so the team should continue strengthening their pass defense. Robertson won’t make much of a difference, but he’s a worthy investment to mentor Cam Hart.
