We start our 2025 Detroit Lions draft preview with a sneaky depth need among the skill groups.
The owners’ meetings mark the final leg of news for the NFL before the calendar truly flips completely towards the NFL Draft , so now is as good of a time as any to start our NFL draft preview series. This marks the first of four podcasts we will do on the Detroit Lions and their draft needs.
With a high-powered offense, it might be silly to talk about the Lions looking at skill position players, but the draft is not always about today, it’s about tomorrow. Especially in later rounds, stash players, grow talent, and think about who might be replacing who in a few years.
On this episode of the Pride of Detroit PODcast, we’re diving into “skill” positions — wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, and quarterbacks — even though they may be the lesser needs of the Lions. The point here is to go deep, look at projected players for each day of the draft, talk about why the Lions could be drafting at these positions, and which day would be most ideal.
We discuss a few names projected to be selected on each day of the draft, discussing and debating the most intriguing guys. There is plenty of good conversation about the later-round tight ends, while our wide receiver conversation focuses on how this is a sneaky depth need for the Lions.
