A look at what each member of Michigan’s 2020 class has been up to in recent years.
The Michigan basketball team went 19-12 during Juwan Howard’s first season in 2019-20, but the campaign was cut short with the start of the pandemic. With Howard being hired in May of 2019, he didn’t get to put together his first real recruiting class until he did so in 2020.
While the 2020 class might not have been anything to write home about at the time, it still yielded some solid contributors who made an impact during their time with the program. Today, we’ll follow up on last week’s article about Michigan’s 2018 recruiting class, and see what each member of Michigan’s 2020 recruiting class has been up to in recent years.
Players are listed in the order they were ranked in the 247Sports Composite .
C Hunter Dickinson
Easily the most notable member of this class, Dickinson has been one of the biggest names in college basketball for the last four years. Dickinson came off the bench for five games as a freshman before grabbing the starting center job and never looking back. He started 89 games for the Wolverines and is one of the best players in the program’s recent history.
While at Michigan, Dickinson earned All-Big Ten honors three times, including first-team honors twice from the media (2021 and 2023). Over three years, he averaged 17.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game.
After the 2022-23 season, Dickinson entered the transfer portal and headed to Kansas to play for Bill Self and company. This past season, he was a consensus second-team All-American with the Jayhawks, averaging 17.9 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game. He’ll be back with Kansas for his fifth collegiate season this season.
PG Zeb Jackson
As a guy that some thought could be a great scorer in college, Zeb Jackson’s career with Michigan never really lived up to the hype. Jackson played mostly in mop-up duty, appearing in 16 games as a freshman and just four as a sophomore.
After his sophomore season, Jackson opted to enter the transfer portal and wound up at VCU. He saw the court more while with the Rams, appearing in 71 games over two seasons, and was a starter for all but one game during the 2023-24 season. This past season, he averaged 11.4 points and 3.3 assists per game.
PF Terrance Williams
Terrance Williams has been one of the mainstays in the Michigan program in recent years and has taken on a bigger role each season. Known more for his work on the defensive end, he notably took a step forward on offense this past season, averaging 12.4 points per game.
In addition to his work on the court, Williams has also made an impact off the court. He was named a team captain for the 2023-24 season and also earned academic All-Big Ten honors each of the last three years.
Following the 2023-24 season, Williams entered the transfer portal and decided to take his talents out west, where he will play for USC this coming year.
NEWS: Michigan transfer Terrance Williams II has committed to USC, he told ESPN. 6-foot-7 forward averaged 12.4 points and 4.5 rebounds this past season, shooting 39.7% from 3. SF Jace Howard
Son of Juwan and brother of Jett, Jace Howard has also been a mainstay in the program. Howard has appeared in 65 games for Michigan over the last four seasons, all off the bench, but he averaged a career-high 12.8 minutes per game this past season.
Like Terrance Williams, Howard was also named a team captain for the 2023-24 season. He was also an academic All-Big Ten selection in each of the last two seasons.
With Juwan Howard’s exit as head coach, there has been some question as to whether Jace would stick around to play under new head coach Dusty May. He does have one season of eligibility left, but it’s not clear one way or another if Howard will be back at Michigan next year.
PG Mike Smith (Transfer)
Smith came to Michigan as a graduate transfer and proved to be one of the biggest contributors for Michigan during the 2020-21 season. He started all 28 of Michigan’s games at point guard, averaging 9.0 points and 5.3 assists per game.
He went undrafted in 2021 but joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G-League where he played 42 games. He then joined the Wellington Saints in New Zealand for four months before landing with the Astoria Bydgoszcz of the Polish Basketball League.
SF Chaundee Brown (Transfer)
Chaundee Brown came over from Wake Forest ahead of the 2020-21 season and served as another major contributor off the bench. Brown was a bucket-getter who shot 41.9% from three-point range in his lone season in Ann Arbor, providing a spark when called upon.
His energy and shot-making ability helped land him a spot with the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted free agent. He was quickly waived before joining the South Bay Lakers and eventually re-signed on a two-way contract with Los Angeles.
He bounced around the G-League for two seasons before eventually heading to Puerto Rico for 12 games and then to the Canadian Basketball League. He’s currently with SIG Strasbourg of the LNB in France.
Bonus: PF Isaiah Todd
This one is certainly a blast from the past. Todd was listed as the No. 20 overall player in 2020 and committed to Michigan back in October of 2019. Todd appeared to be the first of several five-star commits under the new Howard regime, but he decommited in April 2020 and signed with the G League Ignite.
After one season with the Ignite, Todd was selected with the No. 31 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks but was subsequently traded to the Washington Wizards but mostly played in the G-League.
He was recently shipped off to Phoenix as a part of the Bradley Beal trade and was later sent to the Grizzlies for a package of second-round picks. He was waived in September of 2023 and is now back with the Ignite.
