Dusty May didn’t hold back his affinity for the 3-point shot during his introductory press conference.
“We shoot probably too many threes,” he quipped, outlining his program’s vision. He didn’t promise that this team would shoot too many threes, but he made it clear that he thinks it is optimal.
“So I can’t say we’re going to shoot a ton of threes this year because I haven’t seen a roster yet, but they are worth more, so we want to shoot a lot of them.”
Since then, May has built an entire roster, almost entirely from scratch, and has built a group that is more talented on paper than anyone expected.
Offseason practices haven’t started yet in Ann Arbor, and a long list of on-court questions will be answered in due time. The relationship between May’s system, May’s transfer portal class, and the 3-point shot is one of the more interesting ones to figure out.
May wants to shoot threes, he’s confident his transfers can shoot threes, but the reality is that his newcomers didn’t shoot many of them last season.
