We’re just four days away from the Rose Bowl Game in the College Football Playoff. But two Michigan players are apparently leaving the program before the game.
According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Michigan cornerback Cameron Calhoun and linebacker Joey Velazquez have both entered the transfer portal. Calhoun is a freshman while Velazquez is a redshirt senior with at least one more year of eligibility.
Neither Calhoun nor Velazquez have registered any stats for the Wolverines this season. However, Velazquez has significantly more experience.
Last year Velazquez had six tackles in 11 games for the Wolverines. The year before he registered one tackle as a junior.

The timing is largely based on rules regarding transfers. Had the two waiting until next week, they might have missed their opportunities to find the schools they wanted and be eligible to play next season.
It’s an unfortunate situation but it’s the way things are for now.
Perhaps in the future those policies will change.
