One of the busiest weeks in recruiting is upon us.
One of the busiest weeks in college football recruiting is upon us, as Early National Signing Day is set to take place on Wednesday, December 20.
Lots of talented players are expected to sign with the Michigan Wolverines . Until then, here are the top storylines for Michigan fans to be following.
Do Bair and/or Edokpayi sign?
Michigan has been pursuing two of the top uncommitted players in the 2024 class: four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair and four-star edge Lugard Edokpayi.
Bair decommitted from Boise State at the start of this month , saying that he was focusing his recruitment on Michigan and Oregon. Current Wolverines tight end and fellow Idaho native Colston Loveland told The Michigan Insider he’s “putting in a little word” to Bair about coming to Ann Arbor.
Bair was at Michigan for The Game last month. It should be noted that the top-50 wide receiver is taking a two-year mission trip, so he won’t be on the campus of his future college until 2026. Still, if Michigan could land a commitment, he could be a big contributor in a few seasons.
Edokpayi, who’s rated just outside the top-300 on the 247 Composite , picked up an offer from Michigan before Thanksgiving. He made his official visit last week , and a few coaches made an in-home visit before that . The Maryland native has great size at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, and could develop into a reliable edge rusher and cornerstone of the defensive line.
Both Bair and Edokpayi have Michigan crystal ball predictions from 247; we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if they sign later this week, or wait til the next signing day in the winter.
Which commits sign this week?
Tons of players have already committed to the Wolverines in the 2024 class. At this moment, there’s 26 hard commits, headlined by quarterback Jadyn Davis , running back Jordan Marshall, and offensive tackle Andrew Sprague .
Most of those players have been committed since spring and will likely sign on Wednesday. We’ll have plenty of coverage this week regarding who sign, and keep you updated on any surprises if any high-profile commits don’t sign.
Where does Michigan’s class rank nationally?
The Wolverines have now won the Big Ten and have made the College Football Playoff three years in a row. After earning the No. 1 spot in the rankings and only losing one regular season game over the last three seasons, it’s fair to say that Michigan is one of the top college football programs in the country.
It’s harder to stay at the top than it is to get there, and as fans of Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State know, the easiest way to stay on top is dominating recruiting by bringing in talented four-stars and five-stars to replace players heading to the NFL draft.
Michigan is probably one tier below the top dogs in the recruiting ranks for the 2024 class; as of Dec. 18, the 2024 class for the Wolverines is ranked 19th on 247, 16th on On3 , and 13th on Rivals .
Michigan isn’t expected to get a five-star in this class, which is likely the biggest reason they aren’t in the top 10 recruiting-wise. That said, 17 four-star players have committed to Michigan, a number that’s only behind Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma and LSU .
It should be interesting to see how Michigan moves up the rankings if the Wolverines can lock down Bair and Edokpayi. Stay with Maize n Brew for the latest recruiting news, as the Wolverines hope to retool after yet another successful season.
