Tom Brady played a role in Bryce Underwood committing to Michigan. It’s good to have the GOAT on your side. Here’s how Brady was involved.
The Michigan Wolverines landed 2025 No. 1 overall prospect and No. 1 prospect Bryce Underwood on Thursday night. The Belleville, Michigan native flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan.
While Michigan’s NIL package is a major reason Underwood will play college ball in Ann Arbor, other key things swayed his decision-making. Seeing Sherrone Moore conduct practices and team meetings influenced his decision, as did Underwood having multiple conversations with the greatest quarterback of all time.
Per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports , Underwood has been in contact with seven-time Super Bowl champion and former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady.
From Zenitz’s reporting
- “A FaceTime conversation between Brady and Underwood a few weeks ago marked the beginning of their relationship, which grew over multiple conversations, sources told CBS Sports.”
- “Brady, who capped his Michigan career in 1999 with a win over Alabama in the Orange Bowl, emphasized that he’d be a resource for Underwood moving forward. That mentorship resonated with the five-star Michigan native and became one of many factors leading to Underwood flipping his commitment from LSU to Michigan on Thursday night, sources said.”
Brady’s presence and support for the Michigan program aren’t new. Brady also developed a relationship with former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who helped lead the Wolverines to a National Championship last season.

Brady has been helpful to other young quarterbacks as well, including Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, whom Brady personally trained in the past.
How exactly Underwood and Brady’s relationship evolves from here is anyone’s guess, but Brady seems sincere in helping the next generation of great quarterbacks, especially ones like Underwood who will be playing at his alma mater.
