The Michigan women’s basketball team faced a gauntlet schedule to start the season. The Wolverines faced then-No. 1 South Carolina, then-No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 4 USC, No. 1 UCLA, and No. 9 Ohio State — all within their first 15 games. After dropping all five of these top 10 matchups — no other ranked team has played as many teams in the top 10 — Michigan fell out of the AP rankings and slipped down to 12th in the Big Ten rankings.
But now, the Wolverines are finding their rhythm again. Michigan has bounced back in the Big Ten with a series of important victories, including a dominant 27-point win at Purdue, a hard-fought victory over Washington, and a convincing win against Rutgers at home.
But just as important as the wins are for the standings — Michigan is now ninth in the Big Ten— the victories themselves are building the team’s chemistry, fortifying its defense, and honing the skills of its talented young core.
