Three priority visiting recruits for Michigan football this weekend

This will be a busy recruiting weekend for the Wolverines, with plenty of top targets and commits coming to town.

June is always a busy time of year for recruiting, with the Michigan Wolverines football team hosting more than a dozen recruits this weekend.

Here are three players that should be of the highest priority for the Wolverines when looking at positional needs and overall talent.

Andrew Olesh, four-star TE

Olesh is among the highest-ranked uncommitted recruits visiting this weekend. On the 247Sports composite, he is ranked 130th overall in his class, fifth among tight ends and third among Pennsylvanians.

Olesh has been a priority for the Wolverines for a while now. He picked up an offer from Michigan back in March and included Michigan in his top-eight a month later. In an interview with 247Sports’ Brian Dohn ($) at the time, Olesh spoke on his logic for choosing each team in his top eight, including Michigan.

“(Tight ends) coach (Steve) Casula, when I got to Michigan, he was the first one who greeted me. He’s a really good coach,” Olesh said. “He greeted my family well. He showed me how I could fit in. He told me I could be the next Colson Loveland, so that was very nice to hear because he’s going to be a projected first or second round pick. If I could be just like him at Michigan, that would be great because he’s a really good player. He’s already got me in contact with Colston and I’ve been asking him questions.”

Speaking of Loveland, the stud Michigan tight end is eligible to be drafted after this season. While Michigan has tons of young tight ends on the roster, including true freshmen Hogan Hansen and Brady Prieskorn, trying to find a tight end to fill Loveland’s shoes may be difficult. And in the words of Billy Beane , if you can’t replace Loveland, you can “re-create him in the aggregate.”

Michigan has only landed one tight end in the 2025 class so far in three-star recruit Eli Owens . The tight end room has been real solid the last few years, and adding a talented player like Olesh raises the position group’s ceiling.

Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, four-star LB

Michigan has yet to land a 2025 linebacker, and getting a commit from Owusu-Boateng would things started for that position group with a bang.

There’s only one linebacker in the 2024 class in Cole Sullivan , as Jeremiah Beasley transferred to Missouri not long after spring ball. Aside from Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, there aren’t many options at the position right now that are proven players, so the group could certainly use more depth.

Owusu-Boateng is the 75th-best overall player and the ninth-best linebacker in the 2025 class. He has also officially visited USC, Notre Dame and Ohio State this month. He has plenty of time to make a decision, but if Michigan can sway him during this visit, it could be huge for Michigan’s defense long-term.

“I am in no rush,” Owusu-Boateng said to On3’s Chad Simmons last month ($) . “I am going to take my time and not compromise in my decision. Being developed as a man and a player is important to me and I am looking at it all when making a decision. Knowing what college football is today, I am looking to see who has my back and who wants the best for me.”

Kamar Archie, four-star LB

Like Owusu-Boateng, Archie plays a position of need for the Wolverines and should be a high-priority among this weekend’s incoming recruits.

The Trenton, New Jersey native is a top-300 player who is ranked 32nd in his position group on the 247Sports composite . New linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary has been active on the recruiting trail, with Archie being one of the top guys he’s been recruiting.

Austin Hannon with Clemson Insider logged a Crystal Ball prediction for Archie to go to Clemson, who already hosted Archie on an official visit. It appears the Tigers are in the lead as of today, but wining and dining Archie in Ann Arbor this weekend (figuratively, of course) could go a long way for the Wolverines.

“I can’t wait to get back up there,” Archie said to The Wolverine’s EJ Holland last month ($) . “I want to be able to connect with the coaches more. Last time, I didn’t meet coach (Sherrone) Moore. I’ve heard he’s a great guy from (former teammate and incoming true freshman) Owen Wafle. I can’t wait to meet him. I think he’s going to do a great job.”
