Michigan’s the hottest team in the Big Ten right now and head coach Dusty May has been phenomneal. Should Michigan do whatever it takes to make sure May sticks around in Ann Arbor? The survey results are in from this edition of SB Nation Reacts.
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NCAA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Michigan Wolverines fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Michigan head coach Dusty May has been one of the best collegiate basketball coaches in the nation this season in his first year with the Wolverines. Michigan, winners of five straight, is currently ranked No. 20 in the nation with a 19-5 record and ranks first in the Big Ten Conference with an 11-2 record in conference play.
Because of May’s strong first season and the fact his alma mater, Indiana, will have a head coaching vacancy at the end of the season with Mike Woodson stepping down, we wonder if May’s current contract will be reworked to keep him in Ann Arbor. May’s in the first year of a five-year contract worth $3.75 million annually.
Earlier this week we asked fans how hard Michigan should try to keep Dusty May in Ann Arbor. The results are in and they’re telling.

79% of fans believe Michigan should do whatever it takes to keep May, while 14% say they should try hard without going all out. Only 7% of voters believe Michigan should let May go if that’s what he wants.
The more Michigan wins the rest of the season the more likely May’s name could surface with other job openings. Michigan Football was able to endure years of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL rumors without it impacting the overall success of the program. It’s good to have a coach that other teams covet, and that’s what could wind up being the case with May. And if that is indeed the case, is Michigan willing to do whatever it takes to keep him?
