As first reported by MLive, Michigan TE coach Steve Casula has been promoted to co-offensive coordinator. Other assistants received contract extensions as well:
As first reported by MLive on Wednesday morning, Sherrone Moore has extended the contracts of several assistant coaches, while giving a promotion to tight ends coach Steve Casula.
In addition to his role with the tight ends, Casula will now also be the co-offensive coordinator position and likely assist offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey in the week-to-week game planning. He will now make $500,000 per year under his contract, which is a new two-year deal that starts this season.
This isn’t Casula’s first rodeo in this position. He was the interim offensive coordinator for the Wolverines in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama following Kirk Campbell’s firing. He was also the offensive coordinator at UMass, as well as Davenport and Ferris State, before being hired at Michigan.
Casula has done a great job during his time in Ann Arbor thus far — he helped develop Colston Loveland into a first-rounder and has been solid on the recruiting trail — so this is more than deserving for him.
Elsewhere, offensive line coach Grant Newsome, defensive line coach Lou Esposito, defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan, wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy and running backs coach Tony Alford all earned contract extensions from Moore. Alford has a new three-year deal that bumps his pay from $850,000 to $900,000. Esposito will now go from $500,000 to $600,000 on a new two-year deal. Bellamy, Morgan and Newsome earned extension through the 2026 season, but did not receive pay raises.
