Sherrone Moore discussed Michigan’s QB room with the Big Ten Network and provided an encouraging injury update for Mikey Keene.
When Michigan entered the offseason it looked like Fresno State transfer quarterback Mikey Keene and five-star true freshman would be battling it out for QB1 during spring practices. However, Keene has been sidelined with an injury throughout spring practices and it’s been Underwood and redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis taking the reps.
Although spring ball is soon coming to a close for the Wolverines, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore shared a positive update about Keene.
“Both quarterbacks have been really good — Jadyn Davis, Bryce Underwood. Mikey Keene has been working through something, and he’s actually throwing here this week. Feel pretty good about him,” Moore said on the Big Ten Network.
Michigan’s Spring Game is on Saturday, and while Keene may not have enough time between now and then to ramp it up and play in the Spring Game, it’s still encouraging that he’s able to throw. While all reports have indicated that Underwood, the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class, is impressing during spring ball, Keene has something Underwood doesn’t — lots of collegiate experience. Keene is entering his fifth college campaign and has thrown for 8,245 yards in his career with 65 passing touchdowns and 28 interceptions.
Keen now being able to throw could alleviate any concerns Michigan has about his injury lingering, which is important with the spring transfer portal opening on April 16. If Keene is nearing full strength, it would be less imperative for Michigan to add another portal quarterback to the roster.
