Will Johnson has missed Michigan’s last two games, but he’ll be back at some point this season, per Sherrone Moore. Here’s the injury update.
Michigan cornerback Will Johnson has been dealing with an injury and has missed Michigan’s last two games against Illinois and Michigan State.
There’s been unfounded outside speculation that Johnson might have played his last game in a Michigan uniform and start focusing on the NFL Draft process. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was asked about this on Monday and Moore set the record straight — Johnson will suit up again this season.
“Will has no plan of just shutting it down or anything like that. Will, if he could go out there, he would go out there in a heartbeat,” Moore said. “I know that he’ll be back out there at some point this season. Whether it’s this week, next week, or whatever it is.”
Moore said he will leave it to team doctors to determine when Johnson can come back, but the good news is he will be back at some point during Michigan’s final four games of the regular season.
ESPN’s latest mock draft has Johnson being selected with the No. 6 overall pick and heading to the Los Angeles Rams. And Johnson could solidify that draft stock even more if he’s able to play against really good passing offenses such as Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State.
Johnson has returned two interceptions for touchdowns this season and has nine career interceptions at Michigan. Johnson’s 2023 season was especially stellar, earning All-American first-team honor as well as being a consensus All-Big Ten first-team selection. Johnson was also the Defensive MVP of the 2023 National Championship Game where he intercepted Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. on the first play of the second half.
Whether Johnson plays against No. 1 Oregon on Saturday seems to be up in the air, but Michigan fans can now fear not, because Johnson will be back at some point in November.
