Sherrone Moore replaces Jim Harbaugh as head coach of a Michigan football program under NCAA investigation.
In December, the NCAA sent Michigan a notice of alleged recruiting violations by Harbaugh’s staff during the Covid dead period in 2020. The Wolverines could also face more fallout from the sign-stealing scandal that rocked college football last season.
Rich Eisen asked Moore if the head coach has received questions about the investigation on the recruiting trail. The host and Michigan alum wanted to know how Moore responds to those inquiries.
“That’s something that’s out there,” Moore told Eisen . “We don’t know what’s going to happen with it, and we’re just going to take it day by day. I think the President made a great statement and talked about how our players and we won it fair and square. Just like coach [Harbaugh] said, I think we’re innocent, and we’ll just keep trucking along and attacking every day.”
Michigan issued a self-imposed three-game suspension on Harbaugh to start the 2023 season amid the looming threat of NCAA discipline for alleged recruiting violations. Moore served as acting coach in a 31-6 victory over Bowling Green.
Later in the season, the Big Ten suspended Harbaugh for three games amid accusations of the program’s in-person scouting operation. Moore led the Wolverines to three victories, including huge wins over Penn State and Ohio State.
Harbaugh faces a Level I violation, the most severe category, for allegedly misleading or not cooperating with NCAA investigators. Michigan faces four Level II violations.
