Michigan greatly needs Colston Loveland and Will Johnson for The Game against Ohio State. Here’s what Sherrone Moore had to say about their injuries.
The status of two Michigan playmakers are up in the air heading into a big matchup against No. 2 Ohio State (10-1).
Michigan cornerback Will Johnson has been out lower-body injury since leaving Michigan’s sixth game of the season against Washington. Michigan tight end Colston Loveland didn’t appear in the second half of Michigan’s 50-6 win over Northwestern on Saturday and missed a game against USC earlier this season with a shoulder injury. Although it’s unknown what has Loveland sidelined this time around.
At his Monday news conference, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was asked about the status of Johnson and Loveland.
“We’ll see,” Moore said. “I think Colston’s trending in a good direction. We’ll get a better feel in the next couple of days. Same thing with Will, so we’ll see.”
Moore was asked about an ESPN report earlier in the week that said Johnson would be out for both the Northwestern and Ohio State game.
“I just go by what the doctors say. I can’t confirm or say anything else besides what the doctors tell us,” Moore said.
Last month Moore was confident that Johnson would suit up again this year.
“Will has no plan of just shutting it down or anything like that,” Moore said in October. “Will, if he could go out there, he would go out there in a heartbeat. I know that he’ll be back out there at some point this season.”
Johnson and Loveland are both expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and their presence against Ohio State would greatly aid Michigan’s hopes of victory.
Last week Loveland talked about the importance of suiting up for Michigan’s remaining regular season games.
“We’re gonna play,” Loveland said. “As long as we’re healthy and feel good, we’re gonna play. Michigan has done so much for us.”
Hopefully Loveland and Johnson will be healthy and active on Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium when the 6-5 Wolverines take on the Buckeyes.
