There may soon be an end to the Connor Stalions saga, as Sherrone Moore, Michigan Football and the NCAA Committee on Infractions hearing is set to begin today. Here is what you need to know:
Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore will meet with the NCAA Committee on Infractions (COI) beginning later today for a hearing on the ongoing Connor Stalions advanced scouting saga.
Background: During these meetings, the COI reviews evidence/allegations and will determine whether violations occurred or not, the level of said potential violations, and the penalties that would be handed down. Moore/Michigan will be allowed to present any information/evidence that would help their case.
After the hearing, the COI will meet in private to discuss what, if any, penalties should be assessed. The final report is then released 8-12 weeks after the hearing, which means we may not know the final result until the season has already begun, but it is possible this is settled prior to the start of the season (Aug. 30 vs. New Mexico).
What is the COI?: The COI is “an independent administrative body charged with deciding infractions cases involving NCAA member institutions and their employees. Each committee is comprised of individuals serving as volunteers from NCAA member institutions and conferences and individuals from the general public who have legal training.”
The current Division I COI roster includes five people with degrees from Ohio State University, and one person with a degree from Michigan State University. Take what you will with that information.
Michigan’s side: It is unknown who else will be representing Moore/Michigan at this hearing, but “other individuals no longer affiliated with the involved institution” are also allowed to participate, according to the NCAA . That means former head coach Jim Harbaugh, Stalions and others could attend the hearing if they chose to do so.
FRIDAY A.M. UPDATE: Stalions is in Indianapolis for the hearing.
Here is yet another plot twist to the Michigan case: It appears Connor Stalions himself is in attendance this morning. (Sorry to all interested parties, including myself, but the hearing is closed to the public and the media.) pic.twitter.com/lAQO7mSVWQ

While it’s highly unlikely this will be wrapped up today or even this week, the expectation is this matter won’t be a dark cloud hanging over the head of the program heading into the 2025 season. Whether Moore is suspended for Weeks 3-4 — as the university originally planned on for him — or something else, this matter should see a resolution prior to kicking off the season.
For more information, I highly recommend giving this story from SI’s Pat Forde a read. He goes into greater detail about what to expect from the meeting, what will be discussed, and much more. And here’s another really good story from The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis ($).
