Sherrone Moore Has Message For Fans Amid Michigan’s Frustrating Start

The Top 10 Highest Paid Coaches In College Football (1:20)

Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore is realizing life as the man in charge can be tough sometimes.

Last season, Moore filled in admirably during Jim Harbaugh’s suspension, helping the Wolverines win multiple games as interim head coach, including the regular season finale against Ohio State. When Harbaugh left for the NFL, Moore was chosen to replace him. Thus far, the former offensive coordinator’s first season as head coach has been a rocky one.

Michigan lost 21-7 to Illinois on Saturday, the program’s second defeat in a row. Now 4-3 on the season, the Wolverines will have to win out to avoid their first four-loss season since 2020.

During his media session on Monday, Moore addressed his team’s performance through seven games.

“Obviously not happy with the record,” Moore said, via On3 . “Not happy with the losses. Really just want our kids to be in a good place mentally and spiritually. So that’s where we are. We’re 4-3, but our job now is to get better to be 5-3 this week.”

Quarterback play has plagued Michigan all season long. The Wolverines have used three different QBs–Davis Warren, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle–in extended action, and combined, they’ve passed for only 898 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Moore did not name a starter for this weekend’s game against Michigan State on Monday.

He did, however, promise his players would continue to play hard through adversity moving forward.

“I think you look at the end of the [Illinois] game and what the score was, and you saw [defensive tackle] Mason Graham, you saw [defensive tackle] Kenneth Grant, you saw those guys playing their hearts out at the end of the game,” Moore said.

“So I think the culture [supersedes] the losses right now. Those guys see what they’ve done and how they’ve worked to get to this point, and there’s a lot of pride in who they are as people — for them, for their village, for this team, for Michigan.”

Michigan and Michigan State will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday on BTN.
