Sherrone Moore has the uncommon task of inheriting a reigning national champion.
Following an undefeated season, the former offensive coordinator will replace Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s head coach. Moore is taking the adjustment process one step at a time.
During a Tuesday golf event, Moore told WXYZ Detroit’s Brad Galli that he’s handling his new job transition “day by day.”
“Just attacking the process, trying to get better,” Moore said. “Leaning on our players, leaning on our staff to make sure we’re doing everything to keep us aligned and ready to go.”
After six years at Ann Arbor, Moore will begin his first head-coaching job for a Big Ten powerhouse expected to contend annually. However, the 38-year-old doesn’t think the new role has altered his approach.
“People notice you more, but to me it’s the same,” Moore said. “I’m the same person. I’m not going to change just because it’s the title that I have. Just another responsibility to carry out and represent this university in a high way.”
Along with Harbaugh, numerous star players such as J.J. McCarthy and Blake Corum also went to the NFL. However, several upperclassmen opted to stay rather than hit the transfer portal after the coaching change.
“The best thing that we have is our culture that’s already built,” Moore said. “And our players really did a good job of being with each other and staying together and understanding what they’ve already built. They’ve built something super special here, and we’re excited to continue that on.”
