Michigan football staff member Denard Robinson was arrested Monday morning for operating a vehicle while impaired (OWI), according to multiple reports.
Robinson, 33, the Wolverines’ assistant director of player personnel, was arrested after being involved in a single-car crash early this morning, Ann Arbor Police said.
“Michigan football coach Denard Robinson was arrested for OWI after being involved in a single vehicle crash at E. Eisenhower Parkway and S. State on 4/15/24 at approximately 3:05am. Charges are pending toxicology results,” said Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press.
Robinson is the second Michigan football staffer to be arrested for OWI in the last month. Greg Scruggs, who had been hired to coach the defensive line, was arrested on March 16 and resigned five days later.
We’re not sure what today’s news means to Robinson’s future with the program, but it’s sad to hear, especially given how much the Deerfield Beach, Fla. native has meant to the Maize and Blue over the years.
Nicknamed “Shoelace,” Robinson starred at Michigan from 2009-12, winning Big Ten MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2010, when he was named a first-team All-American.
After leaving Ann Arbor with the NCAA record for career rushing yards by a quarterback (4,495), Robinson was picked by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Robinson played four seasons for Jacksonville as a running back and eventually began his coaching career with the franchise as an offensive assistant in 2019. He spent three years working for the Jaguars before Jim Harbaugh hired him at his alma mater in 2022.
