According to a report by Jon Rothstein, Michigan will face Virginia Tech in the opening round of the Fort Myers Tip-Off.
The four-team event’s other matchup will pair Xavier and South Carolina. Games will be played at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College on November 25th and 27th.
The Hokies finished 19-15 (10-10 ACC) and 58th per KenPom last season. They are currently ranked 87th in Bart Torvik’s current preseason projections, returning just 14.8% of last year’s minutes.
Michigan last faced Virginia Tech on November 30th, 2016, in Ann Arbor, a 73-70 Hokie win. The Wolverines knocked off current Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young in the 2014 NCAA Tournament when he was at Wofford.
Michigan has yet to formally announce its non-conference schedule, but Dusty May has put together a solid slate that features six reported or announced games against high-major foes. In addition to two games in Fort Myers, the Wolverines will play Wake Forest in Greensboro, TCU in Ann Arbor, Arkansas in New York City and Oklahoma in Charlotte.
