Michigan football lost a chunk of its coaching staff to the NFL this offseason, but has also dipped into the professional ranks for reinforcements.
According to reports , the Wolverines are hiring Houston Texans safeties coach Stephen Adegoke as defensive backs coach. Adegoke spent this past season in Houston after serving as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive quality control coach in 2022.
He spent one year at Michigan as a grad assistant in 2021 after beginning his coaching career in the same position at the University of Florida in 2019-20.
Adegoke is replacing Steve Clinkscale, who followed Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh also brought defensive coordinator Jesse Minte, defensive line coach Mike Elston and strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert with him.
Meanwhile, Jay Harbaugh, Jim’s son and Michigan’s special teams coordinator, took the same job with the Seattle Seahawks.
Sherrone Moore, Harbaugh’s replacement, has been hard at work filling out his staff. In addition to the reported hire of Adegoke, Moore has promoted quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell to offensive coordinator, elevated J.B. Brown to special teams coordinator and Grant Newsome to offensive line coach, hired former Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator and UMass offensive coordinator Steve Casula as tight ends coach and named Justin Tress the new strength and conditioning coach.
