As first reported by 247Sports on Friday afternoon, Michigan Football has hired David Denham to be an assistant defensive line coach. Denham previously worked with Lou Esposito at Western Michigan:
The Michigan Wolverines have hired an assistant coach with ties to Lou Esposito, as Sherrone Moore has hired David Denham as a new assistant defensive line coach. The news was first reported by 247Sports on Friday afternoon, and was confirmed on Denham’s social media page .
Interestingly enough, Denham was just hired to be the defensive tackles coach with Charlotte back in January. Obviously this is a bit of a lateral job for Denham, but getting to work with elite level players in one of the best conferences in college football was too much for him to pass up.
Other than his short stint at Charlotte, Denham was most recently the defensive line coach at Western Michigan from 2020-24. He was also the recruiting coordinator for the Broncos during his final year in Kalamazoo. Denham worked alongside Esposito when he was the defensive coordinator there.
During his time at Western Michigan, Denham — along with Esposito — was credited with helping develop a couple NFL draft picks in Marshawn Kneeland and, perhaps most notably, Braden Fiske.
In addition to his time at Western Michigan, Denham was also the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at UIndy. He also had stints at Wabash College, the now-defunct Saint Joseph’s College, and Rose-Hulman.
Denham was a linebacker at Tiffin University in the early 2000s before transferring to Ball State in 2003. He is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana.
