Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s NFL Draft stock has seemingly been rising of late.
At the NFL Scouting Combine over the weekend, McCarthy didn’t run the 40-yard dash, but did post the fastest three-cone and second-fastest 20-yard shuttle time among quarterbacks.
McCarthy also turned in a solid performance throwing and weighed in at a bulked-up 219 pounds after being listed at 202 during the season.
All of this leads Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt to believe McCarthy is vaulting up draft boards.
“J.J. McCarthy is going to be a really good NFL quarterback, okay? Those of you that want to be a hater of JJ McCarthy, that’s fine,” Klatt said . “I’m gonna be pretty surprised if he’s not drafted in the first 15 picks. I might be surprised if he’s not taken in the top 10. That’s the type of momentum that he’s generating.
“He plays a selfless brand of football, he’s incredibly incredibly athletic, the guy spins it, he makes plays, he’s a winner, and he doesn’t care who gets the credit. Every organization in the NFL is looking for players like that and in particular at that position.”
USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels are regarded as the top three quarterbacks in this year’s class, but McCarthy is making a case to be the fourth signal caller chosen.
If he keeps turning heads, it’s not out of the question he is taken in the top 10 come late April.
