Jim Harbaugh has had preliminary interviews with the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons, and is expected to meet with both teams again this week.
The national champion head coach is also reportedly in talks with Michigan about a contract extension, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter thinks Harbaugh is leaning toward returning to the pros as of now.
“I do think it’s tracking that way and I do think it’s trending that way,” Schefter said Monday on The Pat McAfee Show. “It seems like there’s a lot of interest, not just from the Chargers, but from the Falcons, so I think there’s a realistic chance he’s going to wind up in the NFL. I think that’s the belief of a lot of people. But right now, he’s got to go through these interviews still.
“He’s going to meet with the Chargers at some point this week. It’ll be the second time he meets with them. Everybody seems to think that that is a match that makes a lot of sense from both sides’ perspectives, which I think it does.”
Harbaugh has been linked to the Chargers going back to the fall, but Schefter cautioned that the Dean Spanos-owned franchise is “casting a wide net” and “talking to a lot of different people” about the position.
The Michigan leader spent Saturday in Baltimore watching his brother John and the Ravens beat the Houston Texans to advance to the AFC Championship Game.
