After committing and signing with Michigan last Wednesday, 2025 four-star OL Ty Haywood has opened up on why he decided to play college football in Ann Arbor. That and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
The Michigan Wolverines wrapped up their 2025 recruiting class with a bang last week as they closed things out with a big commitment from four-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood. Sherrone Moore knocked it out of the park with his first recruiting class, and the work has already begun for the next cycle.
Let’s take a look at what the Wolverines have been up to on the recruiting trail in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Ty Haywood commits to Michigan
The 2025 class is one of the best in program history. The Wolverines finished with the sixth-best class in the country after landing commitments from two five-stars, 15 four-stars and seven three-stars. The class was wrapped up with Haywood’s commitment last Wednesday.
Haywood was a five-star for most of the cycle, but after a recent update, his ranking dropped slightly. He is the No. 39 overall player, the No. 6 offensive tackle and the No. 10 player from Texas, according to 247Sports’ composite.
After committing, Haywood spoke with On3 , and he shared some details regarding his decision. Sherrone Moore’s experience with offensive linemen played a big role, and Haywood also sees some similarities between Michigan and his high school program.
“Coach Moore is a great person, he knows what it takes to be an offensive lineman because he has played it and also coached it as well and he played a huge part in my decision,” Haywood said. “The calls and the texts all made a difference… You don’t get a phone call from a head coach at a university unless they want you. Then when I was on my visit, he was talking about how the offensive line has to bring the energy for the weights and games, which is the same here at my high school.”
An already impressive recruiting class got even better with the addition of Haywood.
Michigan targeting Jordan Marshall’s former high school teammate
After seeing Jordan Marshall play in the ReliaQuest Bowl, it looks like the Wolverines have their next great running back. Michigan is hoping to strike gold at Archbishop Moeller High School once again, as it is now targeting Marshall’s former teammate, 2026 four-star quarterback Matt Ponatoski .
The Wolverines extended an offer last week, the first offer at the position in this class since Chip Lindsey became the offensive coordinator.
After a great conversation with @Coach_SMoore I am blessed to have received an offer from the University of Michigan@Coach_B10 @CoachKontsis @AllenTrieu @Elite11 @QuincyAvery @J_MARSH2024 @Rivals @On3Recruits pic.twitter.com/teUOWS8OQE

Ponatoski spoke with On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) and said he speaks with Marshall “every day” and that Marshall had a message for him.
“(Marshall) loves it,” Ponatoski said. “He hasn’t had one bad word to say about it, and he just told me, ‘Get up on campus and you’re going to have the weekend of your life, you’re going to have so much fun, you’re going to love it here.”
Ponatoski is hoping to make a trip to Michigan in the near future.
This would be a big get for Michigan for a number of reasons. First and foremost, Ponatoski is a talented quarterback that would fill a big need in the class. But it’s also big any time the Wolverines can go into Ohio and land a top recruit.
Taking a big recruit out of Ohio State’s backyard is never easy, but Michigan has done it before, and the fact Ponatoski is friends with Marshall should help the Wolverines’ chances.
Ponatoski is the No. 229 player in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 15 quarterback and the No. 11 player in the state of Ohio.
Top-100 OL has multiple visits scheduled
Michigan is in good standing right now with 2026 four-star offensive lineman Leo Delaney , who is the No. 97 overall prospect in the class. Like Ponatoski, Delaney has some ties to this Michigan team as he currently attends Providence Day School in North Carolina, the same school that current Wolverines Jadyn Davis and Channing Goodwin went to.
According to a report from The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Delaney has locked in multiple visits to Michigan. The Wolverines obviously have some stiff competition here as elite programs like Clemson and Tennessee also appear to be in good standing, but the Wolverines should be feeling good about where they are right now.
