Plus, a CB committed to an SEC team is set to visit today.
Running backs have thrived at Michigan over the last few years, and thanks to excellent offensive line play and development, players like Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum have thrived in big games and turned into NFL running backs. And Donovan Edwards, who appears on the cover of the highly-anticipated NCAA 25 , will head to the NFL after this year.
In this edition of the Recruiting Roundup, we’re going to focus on that position Michigan has made one of their biggest strengths. But before we get into that, let’s touch on the talented cornerback visiting Michigan today.
Four-star SEC commit visiting today
Sharmari Earls , a South Carolina cornerback commit rated just outside the top-100 on the 247Sports composite, begins an unofficial visit to Michigan today, according to The Wolverine’s EJ Holland ($) .
Holland reported that Earls will be on campus through Father’s Day. He’s still committed to South Carolina, which is a bit closer to his hometown (Chester, Virginia), but is going through with this visit, as well as one to Georgia next weekend.
Defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan has quickly made Earls a top priority for the Wolverines. He visited with Earls and his father during the spring evaluation period and has put in a lot of work to make this unofficial visit happen.
Michigan and Georgia appear to be the only two schools that could sway Earls away from the Gamecocks at the moment. We’ll keep you posted on his recruitment as it develops.
Trainer for Top-100 RB discusses official visit
One of the more highly-coveted targets for Michigan in the 2025 class is four-star running back Jordon Davison, who went on his official visit this past weekend, as one of several top recruits visiting .
Davison felt that Michigan prioritized him on his last visit this spring , and in a recent interview with Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($) , Davison’s longtime trainer, Steve Briscoe, said they preached the significance of the running back position for the Wolverines.
“That’s home for me, so I hate to say I’m a little biased, but I feel like they knocked it out of the park once again,” Briscoe said, who is from Farmington Hills. “It was a good trip. Definitely a good trip. (They were) basically, just showing him how important being ‘the guy’ as a running back at Michigan is. It’s just different than anywhere else in the country. Just letting him know, ‘hey, you’re a running back, where else would you go? This is where you’re supposed to be.’
“We spent so much time with coach Alford and coach Moore. That was a big deal. And being in a small group with one of the linemen from Gorman (Seuseu Alofaituli ) was also there. Him and Jordan know each other and definitely want to play together. So, (Michigan) played it smart.”
Briscoe also touched on the NIL presentation Davison saw.
“They did hit back on that and kind of explain what was going on with Donovan Edwards,” Briscoe said. “And like I said, it’s nothing like being a running back at Michigan. They definitely killed that part of it as well. They gave us the best presentation when it came to that than any other school. But we’ve still got the two (official visits) left, so we don’t know (if it will be the best in the end).”
On the 247Sports composite , Davison is rated as the 96th-best player in his class, sixth among running backs and 12th among players from California. The Santa Ana native may have Ohio State as a frontrunner, with two Crystal Ball predictions being logged in favor of the Buckeyes. He’s set to visit Ohio State and Oregon later this month. It’s unclear when Davison will make his decision.
“They did all they could do,” Briscoe said. “I’ll tell you that he was smiling. If you see Jordan smile, that’s a good sign. He doesn’t say much, so I think they did a pretty good job.”
RB speaks on unofficial visit to Michigan
Davison wasn’t the only running back to visit Michigan recently, as 2025 three-star Shekai Mills-Knight also visited Ann Arbor last week.
“(The main highlights of the visit was) getting to know (Head) Coach (Sherrone) Moore and (Running Backs) Coach (Tony) Alford and Coach (Fred) Jackson,” Mills-Knight told Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider ($) . “They are some real ones and I love their vibe. The knowledge from coach Alford and coach Jackson and how cool coach Moore is.”
Mills-Knight also got to connect well with Moore on his visit.
“One of the most down to earth head coaches out there,” Mills-Knight said. “It’s really cool and he’s a real genuine dude that loves his players and has great connections with them. He also loves to win.”
He also had praise for running backs coach Tony Alford. Getting recruits on campus on gameday is a priority for Michigan’s staff, and it appears they are trying to make that happen with Mills-Knight, who may be making an official visit at one of Michigan’s most highly anticipated games this season.
“He’s one of the best running back coaches in the game and his track record proves that he was telling me that I’m a priority,” Mills-Knight said. “Trying to get me to bump an official visit that I had scheduled, but I’ll be taking an official visit in the season. (I’m looking to take my official visit for the) Michigan vs. Texas game.”
On the 247Sports composite , Mills-Knight is ranked 439th overall in his class, 33rd among running backs and 15th among recruits from Tennessee. Michigan offered Mills-Knight just last month , so this has developed rather quickly.
