A good sign for the Wolverines’ chances of landing him.
With the calendar turned to May, we are one month closer to seeing prospects take official visits. Plenty of recruits have their June officially booked, while others are continuing to figure out where they will be going next month.
In this Recruiting Roundup, we’ll discuss a couple prospects with tentative plans to visit Michigan next month, as well as a new running back offer to be aware of.
Four-star WR schedules OV
According to On3’s EJ Holland ($), 2025 four-star wide receiver Quincy Porter has locked in his official visit to Michigan for the weekend of June 14. Additionally, he has official visits planned to Ohio State (June 7) and Oklahoma (June 21).
This is a nice development, as the entire offensive staff was in New Jersey last week checking in on Porter and his family. While they were in town, they even offered a scholarship to Porter’s younger brother, Chase, who is a running back in the 2027 class.
Porter visited Ann Arbor most recently in April, taking in a visit for a spring practice. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder from New Jersey is the No. 51 overall player and seventh-best wideout in his class, per 247Sports’ composite. He would be a massive win on the recruiting trail for Sherrone Moore and company if he were to commit to the Wolverines. They really need a big-bodied receiver in this class to pair up with the likes of Semaj Morgan, I’Marion Stewart and the rest of the smaller receivers that will be on the roster in 2025.
This appears to be a Michigan/OSU recruiting battle as of now, so keep your eyes peeled for more info on this one over the next month or so.
Four-star PSU commit could potentially officially visit U-M
Linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary has hit the ground running on the recruiting trail for Michigan, going after some of the top prospects at the position in the country. One of them happens to be committed to Big Ten rival Penn State, 2025 four-star DJ McClary .
At 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds, McClary hails from Jersey City, New Jersey and has been committed to Penn State since September. However, his head recruiter at PSU, Manny Diaz, left to be the head coach at Duke.
In an effort to keep his options open, McClary is setting up official visits for the summer. He has one planned for Rutgers the first weekend of June, as well as to PSU the weekend of June 14. Another potential destination could be Ann Arbor.
“They have an NFL style defense,” McClary recently told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn ($) what he likes about Michigan. “They run a 3-4. I love that. I like their defense a lot.”
While this comment is brief, it shouldn’t be understated that Jean-Mary was recruiting McClary to go to Knoxville when he was still the linebackers coach at Tennessee. With there being some familiarity, Michigan should have a good shot at getting him on campus for an official visit.
McClary is among the highest rated players at the position — No. 143 overall — that Jean-Mary is recruiting at the moment. Other top targets include four-star Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng , four-star Miami commit Elijah Melendez and three-star Chase Taylor .
Three-star RB earns offer from Michigan
After missing out on a top target last week, Tony Alford and the Wolverines sent an offer to 2025 three-star running back Todd Robinson .
AGTG… Extremely blessed to receive a offer from @UMichFootball @CoachTonyAlford @shelton_felton @CoachJGolden @On3Recruits @247Sports @RecruitGeorgia @24VHSFootball @VHS_FBrecruits pic.twitter.com/1X0w5175Db
— Todd Robinson (@ToddRobinson561) May 4, 2024
Interestingly enough, Robinson is a quarterback for his high school in Valdosta, Georgia, but he did also rush 121 times for 1,001 yards and five touchdowns as a junior last fall.
At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Robinson is similar in stature to four-star Marquise Davis, who committed to Kentucky last week. With Davis heading elsewhere, it was smart for Alford to get Michigan in Robinson’s recruitment. Despite only being the No. 448 overall player in the class, he has other offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU , Florida State , USC, Tennessee and more. It’s fair to assume a rankings bump is due for him in the future.
Robinson has official visits set up for Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia already, so the Wolverines will have to work fast to lock one in.
