One of Michigan’s top overall targets in the 2026 class has announced his commitment date. We have that and more in this edition of the Recruiting Roundup:
Feedback from recent visitors continues to roll in and Michigan is making headway with some of its most coveted prospects.
Top RB set to commit in May
2026 four-star running back Javian Osborne is set to announce his commitment on Saturday, May 3 and will decide between Michigan and Notre Dame .
Michigan and running backs coach Tony Alford have pursued Osborne for months at this point. Osborne is surely worth the dedicated resources, as he has proven to be one of the best players at the position in the nation. His efforts as a junior earned him a spot in the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game. A three-year starter at Forney, Osborne has totaled 4,522 yards and 69 touchdowns on 622 carries as he enters his senior season.
Osborne is planning on attending Michigan’s spring game this weekend. Hopes are high that with a strong visit, Michigan can sway Osborne to make his future in Ann Arbor when he decides in a couple weeks.
Texas DL locks in official visit
Michigan has recently expressed interest in 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman Alister Vallejo . He was on campus last weekend on an unofficial visit and he came away so impressed that he locked in an official visit.
“The main highlight was the hospitality, everybody was just so nice,” Vallejo told On3’s EJ Holland ($). It was just a welcoming environment. People are nice. Walking around, you get a Go Blue from someone. The campus was nice, too. We saw a bunch of it. It was just great overall.”
Defensive line coach Lou Esposito has had his eye on Vallejo for quite some time and offered him while he was on campus.
“It meant a lot to get the offer,” Vallejo said. “I had great conversations with coach Espo. He kept it honest and transparent. For how successful and big that program is, it means a lot to me. The fact that coach Espo wanted to build a connection and get some eyes on me first showed what kind of person he is.”
Vallejo will be back at Michigan for his official visit the weekend of June 13 and is excited to get a deeper look at the program.
“They are up there for sure,” Vallejo said of Michigan. “They spoke very highly of me. The hospitality they had made it feel like a welcoming environment. It’s definitely something I’m going to consider.”
Top DL target impressed with campus visit
2026 three-star defensive lineman Alexander Haskell also visited Michigan this past weekend and came away impressed.
“Michigan has a very nice campus, and they treated our family really great up there,” Haskell told On3’s Holland ($). “I think the best thing about it is how close the football team is to the community. It shows how much Michigan football means up there.”
This development could be crucial, as has he plans to make his decision later this month or early in May. Esposito has been leading the way in the Haskell recruitment.
“Coach Espo is one of the funniest and coolest coaches I’ve been around,” Haskell said. “He truly cares about his players, and they care for him. It shows throughout practice.”
Michigan is in Haskell’s final four along with Duke, Penn State and Syracuse. He is set to end his spring visit schedule with a visit to Penn State this upcoming weekend.
