To the dismay of Michigan fans, five-star in-state quarterback Bryce Underwood still visited LSU last week. Here are the latest updates on the pursuit of him, and other recruiting news:
We are less than a month away from college football’s early signing period, and there’s plenty of recruiting news to get from now until then.
Let’s dive into the latest updates in this bi-weekly edition of the Recruiting Roundup, starting with the recruit every Michigan fan has been talking about.
The latest on the pursuit of five-star Bryce Underwood
We all know the story on Bryce Underwood at this point — he is the top recruit in the 2025 class , plays at Belleville High School, committed to LSU in January, and Michigan has been making an NIL push to land him .
Underwood’s camp has been understandably quiet about this, and there has been a LOT of speculation around Underwood’s decision among Michigan social media pages.
Here’s the latest info from 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($) , one of the more plugged-in recruiting reporters in the game.
- Underwood visited LSU this past weekend for the blowout loss to Alabama, and by all accounts, it was a good visit despite the result of the game.
- Don’t expect any big declarations after that LSU visit, based on how quiet Underwood’s camp has been. Perhaps they don’t want all this news, including the recent addition of manifesto scribe and former vacuum salesman Connor Stalions to Belleville’s coaching staff , to distract from the pursuit of a state title.
- Underwood continuing with this LSU visit, despite rampant unfounded rumors he may not make it down, is a great sign for LSU.
- Citing sources, Trieu reported the Tigers feel much more solid in their position with Underwood after the visit.
- Not much changes for Michigan with all this, as Trieu reports Michigan is still “doing all it can to keep him at home.”
- As of now, Underwood is currently staying at LSU despite a significant NIL offer. That said, NIL doesn’t appear to be the only factor here. Per Trieu, Michigan’s offensive performance and their plan for the future also plays a factor.
- Who the offensive coordinator is at both these schools will be a factor in his decision.
We will keep you updated with the latest on Michigan’s pursuit to flip Underwood, something that would bring seismic shifts to the program if Michigan can pull it off.
Michigan DL commit set to visit Wisconsin this weekend
Michigan picked up a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams back in June , but it sounds like him coming to Ann Arbor isn’t exactly a done deal.
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland ($) reported that Williams is expected to visit Wisconsin this weekend when the Badgers host the No. 1 Oregon Ducks , along with former Michigan quarterback commit Carter Smith.
Williams has been fairly quiet since committing. It’s not uncommon for committed recruits to still take visits, but in this particular case, considering he’s visiting with a scorned former commit, how this visit goes for Williams is worth paying attention to.
Top-300 edge set to visit Michigan later this month
The Wolverines only have one true edge in their 2025 class — four-star Julius Holly — and it appears they are trying to land another.
Tobi Haastrup, who plays high school football in Houston, Texas, is set to visit USC (Nov. 16), Michigan (Nov. 23) and Oregon (Nov. 30) later this month. The defender rated 275th on the composite is originally from London, England and didn’t start playing football until his senior year of high school after growing up playing soccer and participating in track & field.
Haastrup talked with 247’s Mike Roach ($) on what he’s looking for from coaching staffs recruiting him.
“Definitely transparency,” he said. “Having a coach look me in my eye and tell me things he’s told me over the phone as well as seeing the love they have for their athletes. Just looking and observing them when we aren’t even talking and observing their characteristics. What is their pitch to me? Every coach has a different pitch, but what really stands out to me is when a coach expresses it and it’s not just through his words, but I can tell through his presentation or his gestures that he really needs a player like me that can impact the team. I just don’t want to be another number. Those are things I’m picking up as I go.”
Haastrup said he’s set to make a decision on Dec. 2, two days before Signing Day.
Quick Hitters
-Don’t think we’ve mentioned the year 2030 in these roundups before, but there’s a first for everything. Michigan has extended an offer to 2030 recruit (i.e. a current eighth grader) Sam Holcomb, the son of J.J. McCarthy’s childhood quarterback coach, Greg Holcomb.

–Trieu reported earlier this week that 2026 four-star Toledo cornerback Victor Singleton is set to visit Michigan for the Northwestern game, one week before visiting Texas A&M .
-Speaking of visits, for the Northwestern game on November 23, Michigan will be hosting four-star offensive tackle and Washington commit Zac Stascausky, as reported by Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider ($) .
