The Michigan coaching staff was busy on the recruiting trail this past week as they hit to road to visit with some top targets. We discuss it all on today’s recruiting roundup:
The Michigan Wolverines coaching staff had a busy week, as many of them were back on the road visiting top recruiting targets. The hard work is starting to pay off as the Wolverines are in good shape with a lot of players heading into official visit season.
Ron Bellamy hits the road to visit elite WR
Wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy was on the road this past week and visited with one of the best in the class — 2026 four-star Calvin Russell . Russell visited Ann Arbor in the spring, so Bellamy was following up and returning the favor.
No official visit has been locked in at the moment for the 6-foot-5, 195-pounder from Miami, but the hope is that gets scheduled in the near future.
“An official visit is a strong possibility but has not been locked in just yet,” On3’s EJ Holland ($) wrote. “Russell just made his first OV to Florida over the weekend. His only June OV is scheduled with Florida State.”
Getting an elite player for Bryce Underwood to throw the ball to should be a priority for the Wolverines in this class, and Russell certainly fits the bill as the No. 5 ranked wide receiver and No. 43 overall player in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite.
Michigan surprisingly makes top list for four-star edge
Michigan didn’t make the cut when 2026 four-star edge rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes released his top-11 schools, but after playing from behind, the Wolverines made his top-four list after he trimmed his list down further this past week.
“Michigan can get you where you need to be,” Griffin-Haynes told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) . “If you’re a D-lineman, you want to go to Michigan.”
Assistant defensive line coach David Denham has done an outstanding job getting Michigan back in the picture. He went on a visit to see Griffin-Haynes and made a great impression. Now, the Wolverines are in a good spot.
Griffin-Haynes will take official visits to Michigan, Clemson, Florida State and Nebraska. After that, he’ll be able to make a decision.
“On my OVs, I’ll just get the feeling if it’s home or not, and we’ll go from there,” Griffin-Haynes said.
Four-star edge rusher is high on Michigan ahead of official visit
Michigan sits in a good spot with 2026 four-star edge Trenton Henderson . He has already been to Ann Arbor once, but he will be back again in a couple of weeks for his official.
“I like the life after football part and how many defensive linemen they produce,” Henderson told On3’s EJ Holland ($) . “I could see myself being one of those next top defensive linemen at Michigan. I see myself as a rush end. That’s one of the top programs to go to if you’re a defensive lineman. You can’t beat it.”
Defensive line coach Lou Esposito has been working hard to land Henderson, and the two of them have a good bond.
“My relationship with coach Espo is strong,” Henderson added. “When they weren’t on the contact ban, we were talking once or twice a week — sometimes three. He approaches recruiting me more like a players’ coach. It seems like he would be there if I needed anything.”
Henderson knows what he wants to get out of his time on campus when he returns the weekend of June 6.
“I just want to learn a little bit more about how I would be used in the system,” Henderson said. “Just little stuff like that. On the first visit, they showed me everything, so just get to know the coaches more, vibe around and see how I fit in.”
Henderson will also take official visits to LSU, Florida and USC. He plans on committing in November.
