Michigan’s new QB commit, four-star Brady Smigiel, is already active on the recruiting trail for the Wolverines. We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Ahead of some major visits this spring and summer, Michigan has finally started to gain some momentum with the commitments of four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel and three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney. Michigan had been ice cold before those announcements, but the Wolverines enter one of the most important times during the recruiting calendar with some momentum.
Four-star QB commit recruiting top WR, TE targets for Michigan
Smigiel just committed over the weekend, and he is wasting no time recruiting his peers. According to The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb , Smigiel has already been in contact with three different Michigan targets.
“I’m already talking to Moose (four-star tight end Matt Ludwig) a lot,” Smigiel said. “So, we have some family friends connected. I told them I’m committed, so (I’m) just trying to reel him in and make sure that he ends up coming to Michigan as well.”
Smigiel efforts did not stop there, as he also have been active in recruiting four-star wide receiver Calvin Russell .
“Calvin Russell has a huge interest in Michigan. We work with the same agency, so we’ve already had that connection together. I just started to talk to him, and he understands (what Michigan has to offer). It’s not a hard pitch to Michigan. You go out there, and you see everything that you need to see.
Ludwig is one of the top, if not the No. 1 tight end target for the Wolverines in this class. Meanwhile, not much has been said pertaining to Michigan’s chances with Russell — who is a top-50 overall player — but it’s great to hear that Smigiel is really putting on his recruiting hat for the Wolverines. Hopefully it results in more good news.
Four-star WR target locks in OV to Ann Arbor
Michigan has been in on 2026 four-star wide receiver Christian Ward for a bit now, and their dedication is paying off. The Georgia native recently told On3’s Ethan McDowell he will take an official visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of May 30.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has been heavily recruited by Ron Bellamy, and Bellamy recently had a positive visit with Ward and his family.
“(My family loves) him as a coach,” Ward said. “He’s a very cool, true person. The way he coaches the team is great.
“He came to my school that day when he really didn’t have to. That showed a lot of him being committed. He was really the only coach that came down here.”
Ward has previously stated Michigan was the favorite in his recruitment. Heading into official visit season, that “of course” remains the case, Ward said.
Michigan is competing with UNLV, Kansas State and others for Ward services.
