Recruiting Roundup: Michigan working hard to flip four-star Florida State commit

Michigan Football could be hosting a four-star Florida State commit on a visit soon, and the Wolverines are making good progress with other top targets as well. We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:

The Michigan Wolverines have been busy on the recruiting trail in anticipation of their first big recruiting weekend this weekend, and they have made a good amount of progress with some top targets. From flip watches to new offers, we have much to cover in today’s Recruiting Roundup.

Michigan is looking to flip a four-star Florida State commit

2025 four-star safety Darryl Bell has been committed to Florida State since Oct. 2023, but it doesn’t sound like he is completely set on playing for the Seminoles. Florida State recently let go of co-defensive coordinator Randy Shannon, and that could have an impact on Bell’s final decision.

“I committed to Florida State when Randy Shannon was there,” Bell told On3’s EJ Holland ($) . “I really liked his Miami swagger. He’s not there anymore. I do have a good relationship with them. I’m still pretty solid, but I’m looking at some other schools.”

Bell is exploring his options, and Michigan is a school he has his eye on.

“I like Michigan,” Bell said. “I like their mindset. They won the national championship then they had a down year. Now, they have a chip on their shoulder. I like their defense and how they are aggressive. They swarm to the ball.”

It sounds like Michigan secondary coach LaMar Morgan is doing a good job recruiting Bell so far.

“I really mess with coach Morgan,” Bell added. “He’s a chill dude. He’s not really big-headed. He doesn’t pressure me to go to Michigan. He wants what’s best for me. I like that about him. I enjoyed talking to him at school.”

Bell is hoping to make a visit to Michigan happen this spring, but nothing has been set up just yet.

Michigan in the running for four-star RB after recent visit

2026 four-star running back Evan Hampton recently took a visit to Michigan, and he picked up an offer from the Wolverines. Hampton is hoping to make a decision soon, and it sounds like Michigan has a chance to earn his commitment.

“I am interested,” Hampton told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) . “Obviously, I’m at a point of my recruitment where I would like to make a decision this spring. And I don’t know where it goes with the University of Michigan, but they’re definitely in conversation, for sure.”

Even though he just visited, there is a chance Hampton will make a return to Ann Arbor before he makes his final decision. Setting up an official visit was a topic of conversation on his first trip, and although it hasn’t been scheduled yet, there is still the possibility of having that happen.

Running backs coach Tony Alford impressed Hampton on his visit, and Michigan’s overall history at the running back position can’t be ignored.

“I just think, with coach Alford and who he is as a person and as a coach, isn’t something that a recruit wouldn’t want to consider,” Hampton said. “I know that they’re late to the game in the recruiting realm, but at the end of the day, Michigan football has a ton of running back tradition and excellence. And if you’re a (running) back, you can’t not pay attention to that.”

Four-star QB discusses Michigan offer

The Wolverines recently extended an offer to 2027 four-star quarterback Peter Bourque , and he caught up with On3’s Steve Wiltfong ($) to discuss the offer.

“Very fired up!” Bourque said. “Michigan is a true blue blood program and is one of the few programs positioned to compete for national titles every year. They play in the Big Ten so every game is a big game. I have always wanted to play in the biggest moments and on the biggest stage and Michigan is one of those programs that will provide that. Not much bigger than playing in the Big House in front of 100,000 people.”

Michigan’s prestige always goes a long way with recruits, and the success that new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey has had will be important here as well.

“I am excited to spend some time with coach (Chip) Lindsey, being from Massachusetts, big fan of his former quarterback Drake Maye,” Borque said. “Coach Moore was the OC when JJ (McCarthy) was there and I am loved to watch him play when he was a Wolverine. Of course, I have also been a huge Tom Brady fan since day one. Michigan has certainly made quarterback play a priority, excited to see what this year brings with a stacked quarterback room and of course, Bryce Underwood.”

Bourque is the No. 76 overall player in 2027 and also holds offers from Penn State, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Kentucky and more.
