In this edition of the Recruiting Roundup, we dive into Michigan Football’s pursuit of two linebackers currently committed to other schools, including one Big Ten program:
We are a few weeks away from the February signing day, and things are starting to heat up even more for the Michigan Wolverines, especially regarding five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood, who officially visited Ann Arbor last weekend and received multiple predictions to eventually commit to Sherrone Moore and company.
In today’s Recruiting Roundup, we’ll discuss a couple linebackers committed to other schools that Michigan is hoping to land commitments from, as well as other news.
Top-100 Miami LB commit speaks on Michigan interest
With the recruiting contact period window open for 2026 recruits, Michigan has been making a push to flip some talented players, including Jordan Campbell.
A four-star linebacker ranked 66th nationally and fourth among linebackers on the 247Sports composite , the Opa Locka, Florida native has been committed to Miami since Nov. 2023. Michigan has been pursuing Campbell for a while now, and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary went down to Florida to visit with him last week.
“That meant a lot to me that coach travelled all the way down to Miami just to see me,” Campbell told Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider . “He is a coach that can put you in places to make plays and gives you the skills to play hard.”
While Campbell has been committed to Miami for two calendar years, he did say earlier this month he’s listening to other pitches . He’s visited Michigan once, and it would be of Michigan’s best interest to get him on campus again soon.
“Yes, (I plan to visit Michigan again),” Campbell said. “It’s a D1 college that can give me the opportunity and tools to make it in the NFL.”
Michigan pursuing Washington LB commit
Campbell isn’t the only 2026 linebacker on Michigan’s radar. The Wolverines recently offered Wassie Lugolobi, a 2026 three-star backer ranked just outside the top-500 on the composite . Lugolobi spoke on a visit from Michigan defensive analyst Lionel Stokes with TMI’s Marich .
“Michigan is one of the top schools in the country and has both academics and an incredible football program. I really enjoyed meeting the coach and learning more about the program,” Lugolobi said.
Lugolobi didn’t have much else to say, but he did mention that Stokes left a good impression on him and that he hopes to make a trip to Ann Arbor in the future.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the coaches and learning more about the program,” Lugolobi said.
Four-star OT speaks on recent visit from Grant Newsome
Four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee is one of Michigan’s biggest targets at his position. Lee, who is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, isn’t going on the traditional two-year mission, as many within the church normally do. That means he will be a part of the 2026 class.
Lee, a Honolulu native who was complimentary of Michigan’s win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, recently received a visit from offensive line coach Grant Newsome.
“It was awesome to have coach Newsome out here,” Lee told On3’s EJ Holland ($) . “It was his first time out here in Hawaii. It was really special that he was one of the first people out here. I’m so grateful for him making that eight hour flight out here and so grateful that Michigan is recruiting me.”
Things are trending in the right direction with Lee. Back in October, Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider logged a Crystal Ball prediction for Lee to land at Michigan. The Wolverines continue to be among his top options, and Lee is aiming to get to Ann Arbor for an official visit this summer.
“They are pretty high up there,” Lee said of where Michigan stands in his recruitment. “Michigan has been a high recruiting factor for me. They’ve been texting me every day. They call me and check up on me. They’ve just been making me feel at home so far.
Quick Hitters
- Anytime there’s a chance to pursue an offensive lineman named “Bear,” you have to take it. Michigan hosted three-star 2026 offensive lineman Bear McWhorter on a visit last weekend. No Crystal Balls have been logged yet for the previous Arkansas commit.
- Michigan also hosted 2026 four-star cornerback Victor Singleton last weekend, with Singleton telling 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($) that ‘“It was a great experience…I liked their coaches, add just how everything is organized in the weight room. That has to be organized and detailed.” There is a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Ohio State, so Michigan landing him would certainly be celebrated by the fanbase.
- Finally, the first known official visit for Michigan has been scheduled, as 2026 four-star offensive lineman Zaden Krempin is set to make his official visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 20, per 247Sports’ Mike Roach . Krempin also has his official to SMU scheduled for the first weekend in June. He also plans to visit Michigan, SMU, Texas A&M and Florida State this spring.
