Michigan landed a big commitment on the trail recently in four-star QB Brady Smigiel, and is hoping to do the same with one of the top OL prospects in the country. We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Despite the news of Sherrone Moore’s suspension , Michigan is looking to catch some momentum on the recruiting trail with some prospects in the 2026 class and beyond. We recap the latest news and developments in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Michigan impressing priority OT target
It wasn’t that long ago Michigan had success recruiting in the state of Idaho. Several years back, the Wolverines landed Colston Loveland. Now, they hope to pull another Idaho native with 2026 four-star offensive lineman Kelvin Obot .
Obot named Michigan in his top-five, along with Nebraska, USC, Utah and Oregon. He recently spoke to 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman ($) about each finalist and had this to say about Michigan:
“They have one of the cooler campuses I’ve seen. Some people have a super spread out campus, but this one is more narrow and the engineering behind it is great. Ann Arbor is a typical college town and visiting was a cool experience. Coach (Grant) Newsome, I think the players said it best, he’s an old soul. He’s really educated, he cares a lot about that room. Coach (Sherrone) Moore, he’s an offensive lineman and an OL coach himself, so he understands what it’s like. He caters some things to the bigger guys, but more than that, he wants to win and he wants to win bad. The time I had there was phenomenal.”
Obot is going to schedule official visits with his finalists and will then make a final decision shortly after those trips.
DL target impressed by Michigan’s draft success
Michigan’s recent success of getting players drafted seems to be having an impact with recruits. Michigan just had Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant and Loveland all drafted in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, and that has left defensive line target Brian Harris impressed, according to 247Sports’ Brice Marich ($).
“Man, seeing Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant go that high just shows how serious Michigan is about developing their D-line,” Harris said. “Those dudes play with crazy effort and technique, and it’s clear the coaches know what they’re doing. That kind of development definitely catches my eye and makes me look at Michigan even harder.”
The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder is slated to officially visit to Michigan the weekend of June 13. He will also visit Stanford, South Carolina, Auburn and West Virginia this summer.
Michigan feel like ‘family’ to LB
2027 three-star Marshaun Ivy visited Ann Arbor this spring and was impressed with what he saw on his visit.
“It went good,” Ivy told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “I got to see them practice. They’re very intense at practice, very fast paced. And then just as far as the coaches, they just treated me like family the moment I stepped in there. It just felt like a good environment.”
Brian Jean-Mary is Ivy’s primary recruiter and is making Ivy an early priority in his class.
“He just called me in the office and broke it down to me, ‘You’re one of the first 2027s we want to get an offer,’” Ivy said. “It’s just a blessing to get that offer. It just makes me feel like a part of the team already.”
In addition to Michigan, Ivy also holds offers from Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas State and more.
Quick Hitters
- 2027 four-star running back Andrew Beard II is hoping to visit Michigan sometime this year, he told On3’s McDowell ($). Beard is currently the 16th ranked running back in his class.
- Michigan is among the schools standing out for 2026 three-star wide receiver Daylen Sharper , he recently told On3’s Chad Simmons ($). Arizona, Arizona State and Vanderbilt are schools he has official visits locked in with so far.
